Preparation
UNA Mock Trials is built around a fictional civil or criminal fact pattern provided by the American Mock Trial Association. Team members study the case materials, analyze the facts and evidence, and prepare arguments for both sides of the case. Members serve as attorneys, witnesses, or both, working together to develop opening statements, closing arguments, direct examinations, cross-examinations, and objections. Through regular practices and individual preparation, members build the skills necessary to present their case clearly and persuasively.
Competition
At competitions, teams present a simulated trials against other colleges and universities. Each team must be prepared to represent both sides of the case, whether that means prosecution and defense in a criminal case or plaintiff and defense in a civil case. Teams present their cases before judges and attorneys, who evaluate their arguments, examinations, witness performances, and courtroom professionalism. persuasiveness.
